Installation Guide

Step-by-step instructions for installing your sedum roof system. Follow these guidelines for a successful installation.

Important Safety Information

Working on roofs can be dangerous. Always use appropriate safety equipment, follow building regulations, and consider hiring a professional installer if you're not experienced with roofing work. If in doubt, contact us for professional installation services.

Installation Steps

1

Prepare Your Roof

Ensure your roof structure can support the additional weight. The saturated weight of sedum modules is 55 kg/m² - this is the load your roof needs to be able to hold. Modules can go directly on existing roof membranes such as EPDM, felt, PVC, and fiberglass GRP. Ensure the roof is watertight and in good condition.

Key Tips:

  • Verify roof can support 55 kg/m² saturated weight
  • Check existing membrane (EPDM, felt, PVC, or GRP) is watertight
  • Clean surface of debris, moss, and loose materials
  • Repair any damage or leaks before installation
2

Lay Protection Fleece

The fleece should be used on all roofing surfaces. It does not need to overlap - the fleece can cover the whole area. Trim excess fleece with sharp scissors for a neat finish.

Key Tips:

  • Use fleece on all roofing surfaces for protection
  • Fleece does not need to overlap
  • Cover the entire roof area with fleece
  • Trim excess material with sharp scissors
3

Install Edge Trims or Pebble Border

Edge trims or 38-80mm rounded pebbles can be used as a border. Trims can be stuck down to the roof surface using a strong adhesive. Make sure the roof is dry and free of debris before applying adhesive.

Key Tips:

  • Choose between edge trims or 38-80mm rounded pebbles
  • Ensure roof surface is completely dry and clean
  • Use strong adhesive for securing trims
  • Remove all debris before applying adhesive
4

Position Sedum Modules

Start the modules in a corner that is visible. Modules are designed to fit together seamlessly. Modules can be cut with a saw or reciprocating saw to fit around obstacles or edges.

Key Tips:

  • Begin installation in a visible corner
  • Modules are designed to fit together perfectly
  • Use a saw or reciprocating saw to cut modules as needed
  • Handle modules carefully to avoid damaging plants
5

Water & Establish

Water the modules thoroughly after installation. Continue watering regularly for the first 4-6 weeks until plants are established.

Key Tips:

  • Water immediately after installation
  • Water daily for first 2 weeks in dry weather
  • Reduce watering frequency as plants establish
  • Monitor plant health during establishment period

Ongoing Maintenance

Once established, sedum roofs require minimal maintenance. Follow these guidelines to keep your roof thriving:

First Year

  • Water during dry spells (first 6 weeks)
  • Remove any weeds that appear
  • Check drainage outlets quarterly

Ongoing

  • Annual inspection and weed removal
  • Clear debris and leaves
  • Optional feeding in spring
